Edit Mode Explained

Due to no feature on edit mode in PSM3, we feel its probably a good idea to do a little write up on it. Even if a lot of the news in this article isn’t exactly new (PESFan have talked about it too). We felt there was going to be a surprise in what was on offer in the PSM3 feature, because of our embargo, but it didn’t happen. Sniff.

Edit mode as a whole has improved immensely from PES 2008, while just about catching up to the PS2 days of free editing. There are a few added things on top of that, which we will no doubt go into.

Now, when I first got into edit mode I went straight into kit editing. Thankfully its a huge improvement over last year. With 4 layers and over 70 different designs in each section, its extremely easy to replicate pretty much any kit in the real world. This also goes for Man Utd. Many fans will know how their kit template wasn’t in last year (points at white skid mark on the back), but it is this time. It was also easy to spot due to the new way it is presented. When selecting different kit designs, you are shown the front and back designs via an isometric view showing two ‘mannequins’. One of them shows the front, and one shows the back. This makes finding the correct design much easier.

As well as the templates, Konami have incorporated the pixel paint function from the PS2 version to design emblems. I had a mess around with it, and can safely says its exactly the same as the PS2 version - so easy to use, and very accurate. Along with this you can also do the same import feature as last year with the eye toy camera. Thankfully though, as well as being able to upload 40 pics compared to last years 8, you can also upload pics directly from the HD. JPEG’s are fine, but the good news is that PNG’s with transparencies already set are also supported.

Now lets get onto player editing. There’s been a few new additions to this mode, but unfortunately for some reason one pet hate does remain. Tucked or untucked shirts. Well, I can confirm you still can’t select untucked shirts in the game. Player’s do have their shirt untucked during matches, but you can’t select this feature in edit mode.

As with the new view when selecting kit designs, the same mannequin concept is in place when choosing hairstyles. Again it makes life much easier when trying to find the perfect style for your player. Same with face editing, you can choose to use the eye toy camera or load a pic from the HD.

Personalising your player further, there are now new free kick, penalty and running animations to choose from. Ronaldo’s trademark FK and PK stances are available for e.g. as well new goal celebrations. As for boots, I can confirm Nike and Puma join Adidas as the licensed footwear. There are 16 slots in total, 4 of which are preset plain designs. Some guys might remember me saying on one of the podcast I was told by a friend that there was a possibility of a new way to present the boots in the game. Unfortunately this never materialised. The thought was that each of the 12 licensed boots would be a different design (i.e. Adidas Tunit, Adidas Predator), and once selected you could go through a range of colours. On further inspection this isn’t the case, with only the 16 boots on show being available.

Finally, lets go into the MP3 feature. Like we reported a while back, you are able to import chants into the game and assign them to a selected team. From what we could see it was one chant per team, but you can assign them to any team whether they are licensed or not. Along with chants you can also upload MP3’s into the main menu, meaning no more dodgy Konami pop songs you have to listen to!

That’s all I can remember right now, if you have any more questions feel free to ask them in the comments section.

Overall though, I was very impressed with the improved edit feature. Expect a fantastically in-depth WENB option file ready for launch! ;)

  1. All sounds good, except for the 40 slots to import pictures. That sucks big time.
Would be good if you can import a pic and then draw it with badge editor. What a shame…

  2. Great to see edit mode coming back although few out there not going to like the untucked shirt news.

But anyway glad editing back to how it was pretty much the chant is a great feature aswell only if there was room for more chants would be better of course.

Community editing where it at with PES for so many years been fantastic work put in by many people it used to always make game come alive after option files etc.

  3. Adam, when you say you can upload MP3s for the menus, does that mean you can get the music from your HD too? cuz i downloading my whole ipod to my ps3

    CHill-United commented

  4. Yes CHill-United, its done all through your HD.

  5. can the shirts be untucked in edit mode now?

    star santo commented

  6. So you can share your option files with friends, and Adam you say you guys will have your own great option file ready for the release. I’m using xbox so will we be able to get your option file over xbox live?

Thanks for all your efforts, You guys are single-handedly keeping my optimism high, keep up the good work!

  7. omg no untucked shirts in edit mode that suck big big time

    star santo commented

  8. Untucked shirts isn’t THAT big a deal is it? Plus Adam said some players do have untucked shirts, its just that you can’t choose which players.

    2OLEgend commented

  9. lol @ untucked shirts

  10. Adam,
As always, awesome coverage. I’m hoping Konami gets it right by allowing easy downloadable and loadable option file transferring through USB sticks on the PS3 (NTSC and PAL versions identical). Will the option files allow transferring of the chants? The music seems to large in size to transfer and then the legal issues seem problematic. As always, thanks!

  11. I’m actually a little disappointed about the chants, i was hoping for maybe an upload of 40 or something and you could assign as many to one team as you liked. Being a Liverpool supporter i wanted to add You’ll Never Walk Alone, The Torree Song, Field Of Anfield Road, etc.

One question i do have though is how do the chants sound in game? Do you need to get a sound clip of a chant? Or could you upload any song and the game gives it the right pitch and echo etc so that it sounds like a crowd is singing no matter what you stick in there?

  12. Wow Edit mode sounds awsome! But can anyone confirm all the import features for the Xbox360? I wrote to Konami UK and GER but they won’t answer questions concerning PES 2009.

  13. Great updates here at WENB - Edit mode sounds amazing - now I play the waiting game!!

  14. Adam, you said you could upload 40 pics. Is that 40 Emblems and Sponsors mixed together or is that 40 emblems and 40 Sponsors. Also, can you have 40 pics aswell as well as pixel paint logos.
    thanks

  15. Are the chants for Club and Country teams

  16. Adam, regarding sharing Option files, last year it was very difficult to share option files through the XBOX 360, is this still the case, or will the proposed sharing mode in the game, mentioned in the PSM3 article be available on both 360 and PS3?

    Gordinho commented

  17. What about the option to use already in the game faces instead of having to either create it yourself or putting it in via JPEG or whatever. So for example using Beckham’s face on your own created player which was an option for the PS2 but not for 2008.

    Liverpool101 commented

  18. nani17 commented

  19. Just spotted something on them scans. You can have a beard when importing the face.

Also, question to Adam, can you import images on the XBox 360 version?

    Cheers

  20. Not sure I understand how to get jpg/png files off my pc to my xbox. I have tried using usb sticks but they don’t let you transfer files off them. Will there be a way to do this file transfer from a usb stick inside Pes 2009? Or will I have to buy some sort of transfer kit with the xbox memory card?
    Cheers

  21. The edit mode sounds pretty good. My only concern is whether you can use edited teams in player matches online. I tend to play predominantly online, so it won’t be much use to me if they don’t allow it this time.

  22. If you look at the scans from the magazine Messi is in his Barca Shirt i dunno what to take from that with the la liga situation ? ? ?

    Brilliant stuff!

  24. This game just sounds better and better great to have the site back on again .. i really missed it since i feel its not so easy to be pes friendly anymore on other sites …
Keep it up your doing a great job to inform us about the best game in the world
Just read that thomas goal said it will be possible to import 5 chants to every team =)

    Don-T commented

  25. Yeh I got an email from Konami saying that rather than one specific chant per team, it will be a set limit on what amount you can download, meaning more chants per team.

Anyone asking about the X360 version having the same options, I really have no idea. I presume it will, but its probably best to wait for an Xbox magazine’s preview before coming to conclusions. Dont forget PSM3 is a Playstation magazine, they wont comment on Microsofts console.

The 40 pics is juct that, the emblem imported are mixed in with that OR you use the ingame editor.

  26. I’m actually really dissapointed with the news. I’d did kinda know about the untucked shirts but still can’t get my head around why they don’t include it,whats even more ironic is some players in the game actually have untucked shirts,WTF are Konami up to.

The boots news doesn’t make sense either why do they limit the number of boots you can use at one time. If they put these boots into the game why can’t you use them all its ridiculus. I can’t stand this limiting what you can do all the time,it doesn’t make sense. Maybe in PS2 days you could deal with it but its not as if they don’t have enough space on the disks.

Sorry for the rant i’m just pissed off at Konami

  27. I know this sounds ridiculous but can you name the boots that were in the game (and colours).

  30. adam do we have 40 slots for any kind of pictures? or are there slots for badges and sponsors?
    i hope for the 2nd but i guess its 1st :(

    Freaske commented

  31. Would be good if Konami upped the limit for pictures from 40 before release surely it would not be hard to do. ?

Good to see it looks like the chants have been put up to 5 per team.

    Bingham67 commented

  32. @astrochimp
With the upcoming Dashboard update (sometime around november) it will be possible to copy files from your USB Stick to the Xbox 360 HDD. So no problem there!

    manu commented

  33. The 40 slots are for picture you upload. The emblems you make via ingame are unlimited.

  34. Cool thanks guys

  35. I just read the scans from PSM3 and they were very positive and pretty much mirrored what Adam and Suff have already said. Very comforting to say the least!

  37. Yay! looking forward to editing again this year the PSM3 preview was very positive prep work for the option file is already under way :D

  38. Nice to hear Carl!

  39. Good Stuff Carl, its much appreciated.

  40. I’ve a couple of questions

    1. Did anyone who played notice whether the templates had 3 stripes on the sleeve or two like lat year?

    2. And can you import songs onto the actual playlist?

    gold132 commented

  41. if konami is clever then they’ll make one template with 1 stripe and one with 2 stripes on the sleeve and if you put them together the result is 3 stripes like adidas :D
so there wouldn’t be any troubles with adidas :)

    Freaske commented

  42. adam can you add text fonts to kits in edit mode? like the way if you were making a ps2 option file you could type say carlsberg to liverpool kit

    goalgerd_2009 commented

  43. @ Gold 132

    1) Yes the three adidas stripes are in the game when making kits
    2) Yes you can import songs into the playlist

    @ Goalged_2009

Yes you can do that mate, you can put both an emblem and sponsor on the same kit. Regarding Carlsberg, I’ve heard its on the Liverpool shirts right now in PES 2009. Good to hear!

  44. Adam - do you know if edited teams and kits can be used online? (player matches)

    cougar ric commented

  45. Great news about Carlsberg being on Liverpools kit

    gold132 commented

  46. No idea yet cougar ric, the main reason is because no one has seen the online in action. Thats why no one can answer that question yet.

  47. will u b able to share option files on the xbox 360 also ??? and how will it work ???

    martinred9999 commented

  48. Lets wait until a Xbox 360 magazine talks about the game, then we might have an idea about option files for Microsofts console.

  49. No need to wait, it’ll more than likely work the same as last year. You can share, but you’ll have to make a slight edit or risk being banned.

    Kristoff1875 commented

  50. how can i get an option file foe pes 2008 on the xbox 360 anybody ????

  52. does anybody know how i can get an option file for pes 2008 on the xbox 360?

    martinred9999 commented

  53. You need (unless things change with the dashboard update that is due to be released), a transfer kit and a memory card.

Adam, any chance you could link to our new site please? pesrepublic.com.

    Cheers!

    Kristoff1875 commented
