EDITORIAL: Tides of Change

editorial

Its been a while since my last editorial but since news is slow these days I thought what better time to hit the fans of Winning Eleven and Pro Evo with a little food for thought. With the imminent release of the Wii version there is a little buzz going around regarding what to expect with this game and how it may possibly revolutionise how we play football games. The team are due to go and test the game out at Konami’s HQ in London in the very near future and we will be reporting all our findings back to you. From what we’ve seen already however, I am a little skeptical about how this version will play. Some of the videos show intuitive and revolutionary controls that make you think “wow, i’ve always wanted to do that”. Then again you watch and I can’t shake that feeling inside that it may prove to be more annoying and unresponsive than anything else, however, I will reserve judgement until I have played the game.

I personally am hoping this game provides a statement of intent from Konami, with regards to their future football game releases that have dominated for the last decade or so. Until recently they were the champs, but now the boys from Canada have taken huge steps forward and provided a worthy rival to WE/PES 2008 that is superior in many departments. Lets see what SEABASS and co can provide this year to match that. Given the time frame, we must be realistic and not expect an overhaul just yet, but I am confident that we will see some significant changes in the game come LEIPZIG ‘08. The team are already making preparations for this years event and are really looking forward to being there this year with a stronger and more experienced team. Our coverage this year will be far superior. We will be joined by Carl and Co. from the FIFA Soccer Blog team so there are sure to be some good nights out and even a little rivalry!

With the DS version out now there are sure to be many fans out there enjoying PES on the go right now. Although i’m not a big fan of the DS version there is one thing that I can’t stop loving about it. Simply, its simplicity! Playing it on the underground and bus every morning is sure to bring back some great memories of the Super NES days.

Finally, I would like to congratulate DANNY FORD on winning this months Goal of the Month competition. His Van Persie stunner was surely a worthy champion!

Best Regards,

Suffwan Eltom
